A Rockland County woman is accused of beating her girlfriend's son with a leather belt, at the child's home in Valley Stream Monday evening.

According to 5th Precinct detectives, 30-year-old Aja Lane, of Creekside Circle in Spring Valley, struck her girlfriend's 6-year-old son with a belt on his back, arms and chest. The child received several contusions. Lane reportedly hit the child after learning that he misbehaved in school.

The following day, Dec. 14, the child told teachers that he had been hit with a belt, police say. The school then notified Child Protective Services who responded and took the child to an area hospital for evaluation. The child was later released to his mother.

Police have charged Lane with two felony counts of second-degree assault and with fourth-degree possession of a dangerous weapon. She was to be arraigned in First District Court on Dec. 15.

Attorney information for Lane was not immediately available and the name of the school was not released.
