Business owners who pay taxes to, but don’t live in, the Village of Valley Stream will now be able to use the Hendrickson Park pool complex on a limited basis.

Mayor Ed Fare and the Board of Trustees have announced a new program, offering pool access to mercantile licensees operating businesses within the village. The pilot program, “Funday Monday,” will business owners or proprietors the opportunity to purchase a book of eight tickets that includes Monday-only pool access for up to two people, from July 16 through Sept. 3.

“Mondays are traditionally the slowest day of the week for pool use,” Fare said. “This, coupled with the fact that over the last 25 years we have seen our pool attendance dip to about 50 percent capacity, warranted this new pilot program.

“Business owners pay taxes without receiving many of the recreational amenities that are available to village residents and those who live within the Central High School District,” continued Fare. “They contribute to our village in many positive ways, offering products and services, and employing our residents. This pilot program is a way of thanking the business community for being our good neighbors.”

Funday Monday will further enable the village to freeze pool fees and continue to improve the pool complex now and for years to come.
