Project Extra students pay it forward

For the second year, Project Extra students at Oceanside schools will shower the children of Bethany House in Baldwin with gifts and a pizza party.

All of the fifth grade Project Extra students have jobs associated with the party.  Accountants and comptrollers work together to keep track of costs, while other students plan, shop and wrap gifts. Two students from each class will serve as Ambassadors and attend the party to deliver the gifts and play with the children.

To purchase the gifts, the students earned money through extra jobs at home and in their neighborhoods. Once the funds were raised, Project Extra teachers encouraged the children to reflect on how their service helped themselves and others.

Recently, students and a few parents went on a shopping spree at Kohl’s, which gave a 30 percent discount. This week, the children wrapped the gifts and they are looking forward to the party which will take place in February.
