Citizen’s Bank honored a dozen Prom Boutique Planning Committee volunteers last week, including one from West Hempstead, by declaring them “Citizens Bank Citizen of the Week” for helping more than 1,200 girls with financial difficulties enjoy prom and graduation events.

Citizen’s Bank recently started the Citizen of the Week program on Long Island and will recognize one volunteer from Nassau and Suffolk counties every week. The program is designed to recognize volunteers who have performed outstanding community service through nonprofit organizations.

The Prom Boutique Planning Committee volunteers are the second recipients of the honor. The committee, based in Hempstead, is a project of the Long Island Volunteer Center. Volunteers collect new and used dresses and accessories for more than 60 schools and youth organizations all over Long Island.

“Citizens Bank is thrilled to honor Prom Boutique Planning Committee volunteers as the ‘Citizens Bank Citizen of the Week,’” said James P. Gaspo, president of Citizens Bank New York. “Prom and graduation are among the most anticipated events for teenagers as they transition into young adulthood. Prom Boutique Planning Committee volunteers ensure these events result in positive and lasting memories.”

Lana Gluck, of West Hempstead, and Anne Sprotte, of Garden City, were chosen to represent the dozen volunteers selected for the honor.

Long Island Volunteer Center Executive Director Diana O’Neill, who nominated the group, said that Prom Boutique Planning Committee volunteers “work tirelessly to see that teenagers of families that cannot absorb the expense of a new gown get to celebrate a culmination event that salutes staying in school, working hard and obtaining their diploma. They have earned this, it is our way of saying congratulations, well done.”

Citizens Bank invites all registered nonprofit organizations on Long Island to nominate an outstanding volunteer or group of volunteers whose dedication and commitment to community service has made a lasting impact on their organization.
