Rain Gutter Regatta in Island Park

Posted

Cub Scout Pack 312, of Sacred Heart Church held its Rain Gutter Regatta on June 25 under the gazebo at Masone Beach in Island Park. The boys built and decorated their own boats from a scout kit, and entered the race.

Power to move the boat comes from a straw and their breath, no hands, to propel their boat down a two-lane rain gutter filled with water.

They use double-elimination like a Pinewood Derby race; boats remain in competition until they sustain two losses. After the second loss, boats are eliminated from competition.
