Get your taste buds ready, everyone — ‘cause it’s sure to be an exciting evening filled with great food and drink on May 3 as Lynbrook gears up for its second annual “A Taste of Lynbrook,” sponsored by the Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce.

“It’s a great, fun, and enjoyable evening,” said Kathleen Johannsen, executive director of the Atria Tanglewood and the chamber’s vice president of Special Events, who is the chief organizer of this event. “It’s a great way to highlight all restaurants in Lynbrook. Sometimes, people are afraid to try new restaurants and they are welcome to try it [here].”

More than 20 local restaurants and vendors including Angelina’s, McQuade’s, and Vincent’s will be serving a host of tasty cuisine for all to sample and enjoy. There will be “People’s Choice” Gold and Silver awards given out for the best appetizer, entrée and dessert, along with nods for overall dish presentation and table display. “There will be bakeries, wine… and each will have a table and setup a taste, like a mouthful from each different category,” Johannsen added. Attendees will vote for their favorite dishes and choose the winners.

Volunteers hope that this one will be more exciting than last year, when more than 200 people attended, said Bill Gaylor, chamber president and owner of Lynbrook Gift Shop on Atlantic Avenue. Preparations included passing out fliers and visiting local businesses to find participants. All of the planning would not have happened without all the volunteers, Johannsen noted.

And the event will also afford a chance for restaurants to network and promote their businesses, but all who attend to support noteworthy causes.

All proceeds will go to charity: the Lynbrook Relay for Life, the Chamber’s scholarship fund and to help with the addition of the World Trade Center steel to the village’s Sept. 11 memorial garden.
