Remembering Timmy

Motherway family holds fundraiser for scholarship program

Posted

Family and friends gathered at the Commuter’s Club in East Rockaway on Oct. 10 for a day of fun, laughs and memories for a dart tournament — the proceeds of which will go to the Timothy J. Motherway Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The tournament (with winner Matt Motherway taking home the trophy), a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction, great food and refreshements were abound in the club and under the outdoor tent.

“Everyone did something,” said Timothy’s mother, Peggy. “It was incredible. Some made gifts baskets, others made food..they helped set up and clean up.” She said that the D.J. also donated his time and talents.

The scholarship was set up in memory of Timothy Motherway, a 35-year-old East Rockaway resident who was killed in an early-morning car accident on Atlantic Avenue in March on his way home from work. The scholarship will go to help graduates of East Rockaway High School, Tim’s alma mater.

“We wanted to keep his memory alive in a positive way,” Peggy said, “I never realized until this happened how heartwarming it is to live in a small town..no words can express the amount of work that people did to make this happen.”
