Retiring from Elmont after 46 combined years

Uliana Cavalluzzo and Ugo Cavalluzzo, longtime community activists and employees of the Elmont Union Free School District, were honored at the Elmont Union Free School District’s Board of Education meeting in May for their combined 46 years of service for the Elmont district. The couple will both retire on June 30.

Uliana served as the district’s food service manager for 27 years, and Ugo served as the district’s messenger — making daily mail deliveries and handling cash between the district’s eight schools — for 19 years.

“I was only going to spend one year in the district, and that year has stretched to 27,” Uliana said at the Board of Education meeting in May. “It has been a wonderful, wonderful experience. It has been a lot of emotion leaving, but it is time to go.”
