Rockin’ the ’stache … for a cause

Mustaches for Kids raising money for Sloan Kettering’s Pediatric Cancer Care Center

Posted

The Long Beach Mustaches for Kids crew is continuing to raise money for Memorial Sloan Kettering’s Pediatric Cancer Care Center. Mustaches for Kids is a volunteer-run, national organization that supports children with cancer, and volunteers grow mustaches in order to generate donations for children’s charities. The Long Beach chapter’s month-long event will kicked off in September with a “shave day” at Sutton Place, where volunteers let the mustache growth begin. Throughout the month, the group holds a number of fundraisers and events around the city, and volunteers wear buttons that read “Ask me about my mustache” as a way to engage the public about their fundraising efforts. On Saturday, the group will hold its Mustache Family Day at Swingbellys from 2-6 p.m., where there will be a pig roast, face painting, mustache jack-o-lanterns, and crafts for kids. The Long Beach chapter has 110 participants, and the group is hoping to meet or exceed the $71,000 it raised last year.
