Rockville Centre Candlelight Vigil on Sunday night

Posted

Residents are invited to attend Rockville Centre’s 10th annual 9/11 Candlelight Vigil this Sunday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. at Village Green, Maple and Lee avenues, as a show of support and solidarity for local families who lost loved ones in the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Attendees will have a chance to see three steel beams, believed to have supported the 48th floor of the World Trade Center’s south tower, which will be incorporated into a renovated Fireman’s Memorial Park on North Forest Avenue, now being redesigned by a team of firefighters and residents.

According to South Side Middle School teacher Christy Silecchia, there will be a bagpiper, performances by South Side High School’s chorale singers and the St. Agnes choir and refreshments provided by Busco’s Deli. Decorations at the site are the product of South Side Middle School students’ Forget-Me-Not Fundraiser last spring, during which students and staff members sponsored flowers in a “paper garden,” raising $540 for the beautification of the 9/11

memorial.

Limited seating is available, and participants are encouraged to bring candles.
