People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.

Phony officer steals wallet

A 64-year-old South Hempstead resident reported on Jan. 29 that a man masquerading as a police officer stole his wallet, according to a press release from the Nassau County Police Department.

The victim was traveling north on Central Avenue in South Hempstead at 10 p.m. when he noticed a sport utility vehicle following behind, repeatedly flashing its high beam headlights.

The victim stopped his car and was approached by a black male who identified himself as a police officer. The man, believed to be approximately 5’10”, requested the victim’s identification, registration and insurance papers, and told him to turn off the ignition and place the keys on the roof of the car.

When the victim produced his wallet, the subject grabbed it and fled in the S.U.V., driving south on Central Avenue. The victim walked to his home a short distance away and called the police.

Arrests

A 46-year-old Rockville Centre man was arrested on Jan. 10 and charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon after an investigation on Front Street.

A 31-year-old Baldwin resident was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation and VTL violations after a police investigation at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Oceanside Road.

A 40-year-old Staten Island man was arrested the following day and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation and VTL violations after an investigation on Sunrise Highway.

A 21-year-old Lakeview man was arrested on Jan. 14 and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation and VTL violations after an investigation at N. Village Avenue.

A 30-year-old woman was arrested on Jan. 18 and charged with assault after an investigation at her North Village Avenue residence.

Burglaries

A resident of N. Village Avenue reported on Jan. 9 that someone entered his apartment, located in a medical building, and stole jewelry valued at approximately $2,700. The male burglar fled on foot into the medical building complex hallway.

The following day, a resident of N. Village Avenue reported that someone entered her apartment and stole property, including two iPads valued at $1,150 total, a laptop computer, digital camera and jewelry.

A resident of Allen Road, Rockville Centre reported on Jan. 17 that someone damaged a living room window, entered the house without authorization and stole property, including a macbook computer valued at $1,000 and a Nintendo game console valued at $300.

A manager of Beach House Bar at 21 Park Ave. reported on Jan. 18 that someone entered the basement of the business and attempted to remove three cases of empty beer bottles without authorization.

Criminal trespass

A resident of Grand Avenue, Rockville Centre reported on Jan. 9 that someone entered his apartment without authorization.

The same day, another resident of Grand Avenue reported someone entered his apartment without authorization.

Assault

A resident of Smith Street, Lynbrook reported on Jan. 13 that he was assaulted by four males at 4:10 a.m. while in front of Grillfire Restaurant, located at 13 N. Park Ave. He received a broken nose and facial lacerations.

Forgery

A resident of Woodward Avenue, Oceanside, reported on Jan. 10 that someone cashed a business check from Creative Child, located at 209 Sunrise Highway. The check, $300.17, was cashed without authorization.

Larcenies

A resident of Parma Road, Island Park reported on Jan. 9 that someone stole a pocketbook, containing $400, a driver license, credit card and Android cell phone, from the kitchen area of Ear, Nose and Throat, located at 165 N. Village Ave.

A resident of Vernon Avenue reported on Jan. 11 that someone stole his GPS, a gift certificate and $50 from his unlocked vehicle while it was parked in the lot in the rear of Wilson Elementary School.

A resident of Lenox Road reported on Jan. 13 that someone damaged the driver side front window of her 2007 Jeep, valued at $200, and stole 30 cents while the car was parked in the rear lot of her apartment building.

Another resident of Lenox Road reported on the same day that someone damaged the driver side window of her 2003 Nissan, valued at $200, and stole $12 in quarters while it was parked in the rear lot of her apartment building.

The next day, a resident of Pine Street, Rockville Centre reported that someone damaged the passenger side front window of his 2010 Honda, valued at $190, and stole his wife’s pocketbook while the vehicle was parked in front of 10 Lenox Road.

The same day, an employee of CVS Pharmacy, at 598 Merrick Road, reported that a woman stole 20 Oil of Olay skin creams, valued at $706. 98.

The following day, a resident of New Jersey Avenue, Bellmore reported that someone stole her LG Optimus cell phone that she had left on a counter while at King Kullen, located at 127 Sunrise Highway.

A resident of 146th Road, Springfield Gardens reported on Jan. 16 that someone stole his property that was stored in a locker at Bally’s Fitness at 60 Merrick Road, Rockville Centre.

A resident of Windemere Drive, Shirley reported on Jan. 18 that someone damaged the rear passenger window of his 2006 VW while it was parked in front of 222 Sunrise Highway and stole approximately 300 pieces of eyewear, valued at $30,000.

The following day, a resident of S. Kensington Avenue, Rockville Centre reported that two men called her home claiming that she had won a cash prize requiring a tax payment. The resident cashed two checks totaling $2,470 from Bank of America and gave it to the male subjects, who fled in a brown motor vehicle.

A resident of Cedar Avenue, Rockville Centre reported on Jan. 22 that someone stole a GPS valued at $238.94 from his 2011 Nissan while it was parked in his driveway.

A resident of Lincoln Avenue reported on Jan. 25 that someone stole the delivery of an iPad headset valued at $29.15 that had been left outside her apartment door.

Harassment

A resident of Banks Avenue reported on Jan. 13 that a self-employed work supervisor who lives in Staten Island was harassing her and causing annoyance and alarm.

A resident of Lakeview Avenue reported the same day that his 16-year-old son was harassed by an acquaintance while at South Side High School.

The next day, a resident of Brower Avenue reported having a dispute with an acquaintance at Taco Bell, located at 570 Sunrise Highway.

Property lost

A resident of Jefferson Avenue reported on Jan. 9 that he lost his Peruvian passport and driver license on an MSBA bus.

On Jan. 11, a resident of Hempstead Avenue reported that she lost her Trinidad passport and other identification somewhere between her home and the Rockville Centre Long Island Railroad station.

A resident of Rocklyn Avenue, East Rockaway reported that he lost a Minitor pager valued at $10 while in the vicinity of 13. N. Park Ave.

A resident of Linden Street, Rockville Centre reported on Jan. 19 that she lost a platinum diamond ring valued at $10,000 around her home.
