Rockville Centre Crime Watch June 24 2010

People named in Crime Watch items as having been arrested and charged with violations or crimes are only suspected of committing those acts of which they are accused. They are all presumed to be innocent of those charges until and unless found guilty in a court of law.

Arrests

Tyrone Phifer, 48, of Old Mill Court was arrested on June 9 and charged with aggravated harassment after reportedly making verbal telephone threats to a property manager at Meehan Lane, Rockville Centre.

Robert E. Weatherby, 23, of Greystone Road was arrested on June 13 at 6:05 a.m. and charged with driving while intoxicated following an accident investigation on Monroe Street.

Douglas G. Arnold, 42, of Maple Avenue was arrested on June 13 and charged with assault and menacing following an alleged dispute at his home.

Larcenies

On June 6 a McDermott Road resident reported to police that her wallet was missing and that someone bought Metrocards at the Long Island Rail Road with her credit card after she had last used her wallet to pay for a purchase at Panera Bread, 309 Merrick Road.

On June 10, South Side High School's Dean of Students told police that between June 7 between 1 and 1:30 p.m. someone removed a lap top computer valued at approximately $1,200 from a computer tray in the high school library.

On June 10 a Baldwin resident told police that someone removed the license plate of his camper that was parked at Tire Town, 236 N. Long Beach Road on June 2 between 7:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

On June 11 a manager from Bellissima Hair Salon, 288 Sunrise Highway told police that a customer from W. Walnut Street, Long Beach presented two checks for payment of salon services from a closed checking account. The checks were in the amounts of $225,67 and $48.

On June 12, a Roosevelt Place resident reported that his wallet was taken from his unlocked car parked in front of his home sometime between June 11 at 6:15 p.m. and the next morning at 3:15 a.m.

On June 12 at 9:22 a.m., the owner of Art Florist, 70 N. Village Ave. reported to police that someone stole his work van parked on the side of his business. Shortly thereafter, the stolen vehicle was involved in an accident at N. Centre Avenue and Wellington Street in Rockville Centre and left the scene. The van was subsequently recovered at N. Main Street and Grand Avenue in Freeport. A Glock 9mm firearm, $15,000 and approximately $1,200 in flowers were taken from the stolen van.

On June 13 an employee of the Shell gas station, 516 Merrick Road told police that a female customer left the gas station without paying for a $50.22 gasoline purchase.

Criminal mischief

On June 8, a Maine Avenue resident told police that the window to her apartment was apparently damaged while 10 youths in Old Mill Court were throwing rocks at each other.

On June 10, the property manager of the Lewis Coop Apartments at S. Lewis Avenue and Merrick Road reported that sometime between 12:30 a.m and 8:15 a.m. someone damaged a wooden sign.

On June 12, the owner of the Golden Fortune Restaurant, 86 N. Village Ave. told police that someone damaged the front window of his restaurant.

Identity thefts

On June 7 a North Kensington Avenue resident told police that someone made eight purchases online, totaling $3,286.94, with her Astoria MasterCard debit card information.

On June 8 a Meehan Lane resident reported that someone has been receiving income using her name and Social Security number without her permission.

Property damage

On June 7 at 9:20 p.m. there was a reported water main break on the eastbound side of Merrick Road and Sunrise Highway that required a road closure and involved a response from personnel from the Rockville Centre Water Department and the Nassau County Department of Transportation.
