92nd Street Y: Persian Jews in America
On March 4 at 8 p.m. Congregation B'nai Sholom Beth David presents Persian Jews in America: A 2,500-Year-Old Community Confronts the New World with Morgan Hakimi and Saba Soomekh. The Jews of Persia trace their roots to the Babylonian exile of the 6th century BCE. Now Iranian Jews, approximately 70,000 live in the US, primarily in large enclaves in Los Angeles and Great Neck, immigrating in the aftermath of the Iranian Revolution of 1970. How does an ancient community face this geographic and cultural transition while preserving its core identity? Visit www.bnaisholon.org or call (516) 764-4100 for information.
