Thanks for your support

To the Editor:

We would like to thank the community for supporting the 2010-11 Rockville Centre school budget. A record number of residents made it to the polls to support our schools and our children despite the nonstop rain. Congratulations to John O'Shea and Gregg Spaulding on their election to the school board.

As we work through these challenging economic times, we will continue to manage costs efficiently while maintaining the best education for our children, and look forward to a bright future with continued community involvement.

We thank you for your continued support.

First responders keep our communities safe

To the Editor:

After battling two significant fires in Baldwin over the past several weeks, our community owes the Rockville Centre and South Hempstead fire departments a huge debt of gratitude. These volunteer firefighters have now heroically battled two major, multi-alarm blazes in Baldwin, putting them out in record time without any reported major injuries.

The mutual assistance that neighboring fire departments provide each other is part of the rich mosaic that defines our wonderful quality of life here in the Town of Hempstead. Our firefighters' training and experience has greatly limited the effects of these recent blazes on the Baldwin community.

As councilman for the Town of Hempstead, I wish to thank and salute the fine fire services that are provided to our communities. Our community will always be well protected because of our dedicated first responders like these fine men and women.

On Memorial Day, show your colors

To the Editor:

Memorial Day will be here soon. This is the only day when we are instructed to fly our nation’s colors at half staff until noon. The U.S. Post Office diligently flies our nation’s colors at half staff until noon every Memorial Day. On Monday, please raise your flag to full staff at sunrise and then solemnly lower it to half staff. Raise your flag to full staff at noon. Do this at home, and share this information with your employers or employees and inform your school districts. Do this to recognize all who served, died or are serving to protect our nation’s freedom and liberties.
