Needs specifics on school bond

To the Editor:

A full page article always gets my attention — including the High School View column, "Students need the best facility we can provide," in the Nov. 12-18 issue.

The topic, chosen by a member of the Compact for Learning Committee, lists many of the flaws that the $31.8 million bond issue would address. Following the story's suggestion of viewing the school district's Web site, I gained a better understanding of the project that is designed to provide better educational structures and improve safety and security. The BBS architect's drawings were very informative.

However, part of the need to meet the "three S's" (science, security and safety) appears to have come from a "closer look" during the annual inspection tour on Sept. 2. How many other annual inspections didn't find these conditions? Both the Compact Committee and the report on renovations gave no indication on specifically how the problems outlined in the story would be solved. True to the story, I found "facts," but few solutions.

In order to become better informed on a decision regarding the bond issue, I hope that the next High School View column will afford me specific references relating to how the needs of the three S's will be met by this renovation program.
