Rockville Centre museum has dolls on display

Posted

Freeport artist April Marius was on hand to greet visitors to the Museum of the Village of Rockville Centre at Phillips House last Sunday, during the opening of an exhibit in honor of Black History Month.

Dozens of late 19th and early 20th century African-American dolls, collected by Marius, are on display for the first time in the United States at the museum in an exhibit that will run through April 17.

The museum, at 28 Hempstead Ave. gained its “absolute charter” of certification from the Regents of the State University of New York last year, and is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. or by appointment by calling (516) 764-7459. There is no admission fee, but tax-deductible donations are welcomed.
