Rockville Centre named one of safest cities in N.Y.

Rockville Centre was one of the top 10 safest cities in New York according to data released by Consumer Affairs Magazine.

Consumer Affairs compiled data from the FBI and the Census Bureau to create a map that displayed the safest cities in the country. Rockville Centre ranked No. 6 in all of New York for the lowest burglary odds, and No. 74 in the entire country.

“It’s a great honor for Rockville Centre to be named one of the safest cities in New York,” said Mayor Francis X. Murray. “The Village of Rockville Centre has always placed a high priority on public safety and it is rewarding to see our efforts acknowledged. I would like to commend the efforts of our Police Commissioner Charles Gennario and his entire department, because their dedication and vigilance is instrumental in creating the safe community that we enjoy.”

According to the data compiled by Consumer Affairs, a household in Rockville Centre has a one in 3,016 chance of being burglarized, making it one of the safest cities in New York. Baldwinsville, the top-ranked city, had burglary odds of one in 7,485. Lynbrook was ranked No. 33 in the state, with 1 in 1,500 odds of being burglarized. Long Beach was at No. 57 with one in 1,084 odds.
