Rockville Centre police coordinate underage alcohol sting

Four clerks in four local stores were charged with the Sale of Alcohol to a Person Under the Age of 21 in a sting conducted by officers from the Rockville Centre Police Department and Nassau County’s First Precinct on Sept. 23.

The licensed premises in South Hempstead and Baldwin that were cited during this operation were: S & H Deli, 1131 Long Beach Road, South Hempstead; the BP Service Station, 470 Grand Ave., South Hempstead; the Mobil Service Station, 1214 Grand Ave., Baldwin and the 7-11 Store at 1271 Grand Ave., Baldwin.

Shahnazb Kharoufa, 56 (S & H Deli) of Jeantt Drive, Massapequa; Omar Mahmood, 29 (BP Service Station) of 74th Street, East Elmhurst; Vijay Arora, 27 (Mobil Service Station) of Jackson Ave., Hempstead and Gyu Choi ,46 ( 7-11 Store) Woodberry Road, Hauppauge were charged with violating Section 65-1 of the New York State Alcoholic Beverage Control Law. They are set to appear in Nassau County First District Court on Oct. 18.

According to Rockville Centre Police Commissioner Charles Gennario, the investigation was conducted in response to information that underage Rockville Centre youth were purchasing alcoholic beverages outside of the village. He urges citizens to report illegal alcohol sales to the police department at (516) 766-1500. All information received will remain confidential.
