Police find suspicious vehicle with a poster of Saddam Hussein

The Rockville Centre Police Department responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle on N. Village Avenue around 9:30 p.m. on Friday night. 

Police Commissioner Randy Dodd stated in a letter to residents that the vehicle had a poster of Saddam Hussein and writing on the hood. It read, “When you close your eyes everyone is blind.” 

The vehicle had no tags and appeared to have wires coming out of the dashboard and its hazard lights were on. 

Rockville Centre Police notified the Nassau County Police Department Bomb Squad for a more thorough investigation and closed down N. Village Avenue, north of Sunrise Highway to Front Street. 

“I understand that such situations can be alarming, and I want to assure you that the safety of the Rockville Centre community is my top priority,” Dodd said in his letter. 

Following a meticulous examination, Dodd said, the bomb squad confirmed no threat was associated with the vehicle in question.

The vehicle was safely removed from the scene and was impounded for further investigation. 

“I want to emphasize that your safety remains paramount, and our Police Department is committed to maintaining a secure environment for all residents,” Dodd writes. “I appreciate your patience and cooperation during these situations, and I understand the concerns that events like these may raise.”
