When Edith Weisman was born, Woodrow Wilson was in office, and World War I had not yet ended.
A century later, she hit the dance floor with friends and family at Rockville Centre’s Sandel Senior Center. About 150 people attended the April 27 gathering, two weeks after her 100th birthday, to celebrate the milestone.
Weisman, who lives in Westbury with her daughter, became a member of the Sandel Senior Center in 2004. She became the third current Sandel member to reach 100 years old, joining Selma Stone, who is 104, the center’s oldest.
Attendees enjoyed dancing and music, and Weisman blew out the candles on a personalized birthday cake with relatives by her side.
“It’s so inspirational when you meet a person who’s that old who has such incredible personality and all their brain power is still good,” said Chris O’Leary, director of the Sandel Center. “It’s just wonderful. It’s really a gift.”
