Rockville Centre under snow emergency

Rockville Centre, along with the rest of Long Island, was hit with heavy snowfall and high winds on Saturday morning. Snow is expected to accumulate to between 8 and 11 inches with wind gusting at 45 mph. A winter storm warning from the National Weather Service is in effect until 7 p.m. Saturday night.

Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency that began at 8 p.m. on Friday. The Long Island Railroad has been shut down and could remain out of service until Monday morning, according to MTA officials.

Rockville Centre Mayor Francis Murray declared a snow emergency via the village Facebook page on Friday morning warning residents that there will be no street parking and that residents should remain off of the roadways while Department of Public Works crews clear the village’s 53 miles of roads and 30 parking fields.
