Running for a reason –– Alex –– at Newbridge Park

Posted

The fourth annual Alex’s Run For a Reason fundraiser took place this past Saturday at Newbridge Road Park in Bellmore to great success.

About 500 people turned out to take part in the day’s activities, and the event raised more than $26,000.

Danna and Brian Richardson founded Alex’s Run For a Reason in October 2006 in memory of their daughter, Alexandra, who died suddenly in her sleep at 22 months old. The cause of death remains unknown to this day.

The fundraising event is held annually as a reason to honor Alexandra’s life, and to raise awareness and funds for the Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood program. The Richardsons have raised more than $200,000 since they started the event four years ago.

“The reason why we do it is to obviously raise awareness and funds for the SUDC program,” said Danna Richardson, “And to remember our daughter, who is still very close to our hearts, and to make sure her spirit and memory lives on. I think that this event definitely did that.”
