Lynbrook resident Dan McGrath, 27, of Lynbrook, pictured at left, was the first male runner to reach the finish line at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School at the 7th annual Heart & Sole 5 Kilometer Run on July 11.

He scored in 16 minutes, 10 seconds. Tracy Kemper, 46, of Oyster Bay was the first female finisher overall.

“It was a hot and humid morning, which caused me to struggle over the last mile of the race,” said McGrath, who said that it was the slowest 5K time that he’s run since he was in high school. “I am in the process of ramping up my training for the Toronto Marathon on Sept. 26, so I attribute the slower time to the weather and the increased intensity of my workouts as of late.” McGrath’s brother, Shaun finished second and their friend, fellow Lynbrook Track Club member Brendan Donoghue finished third.

The 2010 Run was held to benefit the Plainview/Syosset Hospital Scholarship Fund for local students considering a career in a medically-related field, and to support community services at Plainview and Syosset hospitals.  This year’s Run was in honor of Dr. Dorit Ben-Moha of Plainview and her “Regain My Life” Program to help folks with weight issues on the journey to their new life of better health and fitness.
