Despite the hardships being endured by the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, followed by a nor’easter, the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway (HAFTR) had more than 350 guests at its high school’s open house on Nov. 11.

With more than 20 families from other neighborhoods schools also attending, HAFTR officials said it was their most successful open house to date.

Introductory remarks from HAFTR principals Naomi Lippman and Rabbi Gedaliah Oppen began the event, along with student speakers, senior Rebecca Jedwab and freshman Justin Glickman. Jedwab is a two-year HAFTR Highlights columnist for the Herald. A video about HAFTR was also shown.

Parents of prospective students sat in on four model lessons, while their children took part in a scavenger hunt that allowed them the opportunity to explore the school and speak with students and faculty members.
