Seaford honors its biggest supporters

Posted

“A school district is made up of many people,” Seaford Board of Education President Bruce Kahn said, in preparing to honor those who don’t work for the schools, but still make important contributions to them.

The school board and Superintendent Brian Conoby recognized the various groups that support the district at the Dec. 3 board meeting. Kahn said that these organizations are often overlooked, yet do so much for the students and staff in Seaford.

Kahn and Conboy ticked off a few ways that each organization helps out. The high school and middle school PTSA hosts staff appreciation breakfasts and provides refreshments at various events.

The Harbor and Manor PTAs provide the fifth-grade yearbooks, host fundraisers and book fairs, and promote the Parents as Reading Partners program.

SEPTA gives out scholarships, as does the Booster Club for an athlete from each varsity sport. Three music support groups — Encore for the high school, Bravo for the chorus and Forte for the middle and elementary schools — provide chaperones for field trips.

The Seaford Wellness Council has sponsored the high school robotics team and provides the Friday Night Live activity programs for middle school students.

On hand to accept awards were Nancy Saloman from the Manor PTA, Stacie Stark from the Harbor PTA, Janine Kolodinsky from the Booster Club, Toni Coacci from Encore, Celeste Umstadt from Forte and Ken Nersesian from the Wellness Council.
