Senior citizens, meeting at the Recreation Center in Lynbrook’s Greis Park on the afternoon of April 25, had to be evacuated because of a smoky condition coming from the building.
The Lynbrook Fire Department, under the command of Chief Anthony DeCarlo, responded, and evacuated the seniors. Tally-Ho Engine 3, from nearby Horton Avenue, was first on the scene, followed by Engine Company, and Truck Company.
Firefighters went into the attic of the recreation center and found a motor had burnt out, causing the smoke. No fire was found, and a fan was used to help dissipate the smoke from the building.
As a precaution, Medical Company personnel met with the seniors to make sure the smoke had affected none of them. Vulcan Company and Hose Company stood-by to cover other calls. The seniors were let back in the building about 20 minutes later to continue their activities.
