South seniors recall the good times

Valley Stream South High School has been home to many of this year’s graduating seniors for the past six years. However, in a couple of months, a large portion of the class of 2012 will be attending classes in a college environment.

As graduation fast approaches, here’s what some seniors said they will remember from their time at South and where they’re headed in the future.

SYDNEY BHAGRATTI

College: Penn State
Plans to study: Family law
Elementary school: William L. Buck
Best high school memory: During my time in the Cultural Society I loved speaking different languages and doing different cultural dances.
Activities: Student Council, Key Club, Cultural Society, honor societies
What will you miss most about South?: My friends, they’ve influenced me so much, my guidance counselors and my teachers, especially in the social studies department.
Plans for summer: Taking a six-week pre-law requisite at Penn State

VINCENT CAVELLO
College:
Columbia College in Chicago
Plans to study: Arts and entertainment management
Elementary school: Robert W. Carbonaro
Best high school memory: When my volleyball team won our conference this season because we worked so hard.
Activities: Student Council president, Art Honor Society, volleyball
What will you miss most about South?: The chance to experiment so much with clubs and sports.
Plans for summer: I work at summer camp in Lawrence/Woodmere

NUHA HAMARSHA
College:
SUNY Albany
Plans to study: International relations
Elementary school: Forest Road
Best high school memory: The atmosphere here and seeing my friends everyday.
Activities: Soccer, winter and spring track, Key Club, honor societies
What will you miss most about South?: Seeing the same faces everyday, the comfortability and my best friends.
Plans for summer: I’m going to enjoy my last summer with my friends until we go our separate ways.

ERIC KLEINERTZ
College:
New York University
Plans to study: Biology
Elementary school: William L. Buck
Best high school memory: It’s hard to say because on a day-to-day basis so many awesome things happen here.
Activities: It’s Academic, Falcon Report, Jazz Ensemble
What will you miss most about South?: The community at South. It’s a great school no doubt, but the people here are above everything else.
Plans for summer: Having a fantastic summer with my family and friends.

NICOLE MCKEE
College:
Notre Dame
Plans to study: Pre-medicine
Elementary school: William L. Buck
Best high school memory: Being recognized by my peers for all my athletic accomplishments.
Activities: Fencing, Key Club
What will you miss most about South?: The close-knit community we have here and the diversity.
Plans for summer: Travel to California to compete in the Summer National Tournament for fencing and then I may intern at a dentist’s office.

SARAH SANTOS
College:
Syracuse
Plans to study: Journalism
Elementary school: Robert W. Carbonaro
Best high school memory: Every moment that I’ve had with my friends because they have shaped me into who I am today.
Activities: Volleyball, Kickline, Student Council, honor societies
What will you miss most about South?: How I knew everything that was going to happen. Seeing my friends everyday and the teachers.
Plans for summer: Spending as much time as I can with my friends before everything changes.

NICHOLAS SCIDA
College: American University
Plans to study: Political science
Elementary school: Robert W. Carbonaro
Best high school memory: Going to the Ronald McDonald House this year with Character Action and cooking for everyone.
Activities: Project Green, Character Action Team
What will you miss most about South?: The teachers, the environment, seeing all my friends when I walk in.
Plans for summer: I’m going away to St. Thomas and to Montauk then work and save money for college.

JOLIE WILSON
College: Princeton
Plans to study: Molecular biology
Elementary school: Forest Road
Best high school memory: Pep rallies are always so much fun. You have all the grades coming together and this year I was fortunate enough to be the emcee.
Activities: Key Club, Student Council, Project Green, peer mediator
What will you miss most about South?: The diversity, definitely. Having friends of different ethnicities than me, understanding them and being able to connect with them.
Plans for summer: I’m a camp counselor at the Center for Science and Learning in Rockville Centre.
