A South Side High School senior was one of six young Long Island musicians to be named a Tilles Scholar after a competitive audition process at the renowned center for the performing arts.

Justin Wong, a 17-year-old cellist, received financial support to attend the 2011 C.W. Post Chamber Music Festival that was held at the Tilles Center on the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University in Brookville.

The festival was a three-week program that focused on studying and performing chamber music repertory, and featured a chamber orchestra, master classes, a seminar program, a concerto competition and musicianship classes. Festival participants had the opportunity to listen to and work with important musicians such as the Pierrot Consort, the Orion String Quartet, cellist Timothy Eddy and the Emerson String Quartet.

The Tilles Scholars program was created to encourage promising young musicians and is funded in part by Swing for Kids.
