South Side Middle School students score well on language exams

Several World Language students from South Side Middle School attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2014 National Spanish and French examinations.

The students at South Side Middle School earned a total of three gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, along with 21 honorable mentions, on the Spanish exam, and three gold, five silver and seven bronze medals on the French exam.

“Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Exam is very prestigious because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States, with over 154,000 students participating in 2014,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the exams.

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades 6 through 12, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and by the American Association of Teachers of French.
