New York State Troopers were dispatched to a report of a wrong way driver on the Northern State Parkway east of Glen Cove Road on Dec. 25 around 5:15 a.m. The vehicle, a white Chevrolet Malibu, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes from exit 31 and caused two accidents before Troopers were able to stop the car near exit 40 (Route 110).

The driver, 35-year-old Raymond Hulsman, of West Hempstead, was arrested for driving while intoxicated; He produced a positive breath sample of .15 percent blood alcohol content.

Hulsman was charged with DWI, second-degree reckless endangerment and traffic violations. In both one-car accidents Hulsman caused, the drivers hit the cement median while attempting to avoid being struck by Hulsman’s car. Neither vehicle made contact with Hulsman’s vehicle, and the operator of one of the cars was treated for back pain at Winthrop Hospital.
