Strawberry fields forever in North Bellmore

Posted

The aroma of funnel cakes and sausage and pepper sandwiches, the laughter of children mixed with the noise of a Ferris wheel lurching upwards, and dozens of vendor booths filled with handmade crafts were just some of the smells, sounds and sights of the Nassau County Strawberry Festival in North Bellmore last weekend.

The festival, sponsored by the Bellmore Lions and Kiwanis clubs, was open for four days at the Jerusalem Avenue School. Once again, the event attracted hundreds of people in search of their first taste of the summer season.

The two groups organize the festival to raise funds for local charities.

Festival-goers ate sweets treats, rode the rides and watched live musical performances, including one by a band with an appropriate name.

Strawberry Fields, a popular Beatles tribute band comprising members of the Broadway musical “Beatlemania,” took the stage on May 31. Organizers brought them to this year’s event in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ performance on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”
