Suspected serial burglar nabbed after foot pursuit in East Meadow

Police: defendant also committed burglaries in Merrick, Westbury

A suspected serial burglar was arrested by Nassau police following a foot pursuit in East Meadow on Sunday night.
   
According to detectives, First Precinct Officers responded to a call for a burglary in progress at a home on Maitland Street in East Meadow at about 9:20 p.m. The arresting officers heard suspicious sounds coming from the rear yard and after a brief foot pursuit, arrested the defendant, Julio Cesar Aldana-Perez of Freeport in Veterans Memorial Park on Prospect Avenue in East Meadow at 10 p.m. without incident, police said. After additional information was obtained by the First Squad through DNA, the defendant was also charged with seven other burglaries in the East Meadow, Merrick and Westbury area, police said.
   
Perez, 27, was charged with Burglary Second Degree. He was scheduled for arraignment in First District Court on Monday.
