Merokeans Rachel Cohen and Jessie Fenton helped clean up debris at Cammans Pond Park in Merrick during the South Merrick Community Civic Association’s annual “Spring Clean Sweep” last weekend.

The South Merrick Community Civic Association teamed up with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, local leaders and Merrick residents to clean up debris at Julian Lane and Cammans Pond parks in Merrick last weekend.
The civic group plans to make the “Spring Clean Sweep” an annual event, and the South Merrick Community Civic Association President Joe Baker said he plans to organize other cleanups in the near future. “It was pretty successful,” said Baker. “Kids enjoyed it.”
About 40 children and adults came out to clean up the park on Saturday, and the group cleaned up Cammans Pond on Sunday. “It was a group effort,” said Baker.
