Teen on bike seriously hurt in Valley Stream

A local teenager was airlifted to the hospital after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle Saturday evening. The accident occurred at Sunrise Highway and Rockaway Avenue.

Police say that Fernando Rodriguez, 36, Clayton, N.J. was heading east on Sunrise Highway when he struck the teen with his Nissan Altima shortly before 7 p.m. on June 26. The teen was identified as 16-year-old Peter Laserinko of Valley Stream.

According to police, Laserinko was heading north on Rockaway Avenue on his bicycle. He was taken by helicopter to Nassau University Medical Center.

Police did not report any charges filed against the driver. According to witnesses, Laserinko was thrown more than 20 feet from his bike and suffered head injuries.

On Monday, his family reported that Peter has suffered a fractured skill but was in stable condition.
