Terminix truck skids into storefronts

A Terminix pest control truck heading eastbound on Sunrise Highway skidded, hit a pole and then crashed into multiple storefronts in Rockville Centre on Feb. 21, a village spokesman told the Herald.

The 47-year-old-driver was transported to South Nassau Communities Hospital and was treated for neck and back pains. No one else was hurt in the accident.

The village Fire Department, who arrived at the scene shortly after the crash happened at 6:57 a.m., extricated the unidentified man from the vehicle as it was still leaking fuel. The removal went smoothly, according to Fire Department Chief Mark Murray.

It is not clear whether the truck — a 2009 Chevrolet — was in four-wheel drive at the time of the accident, which occurred after a batch of snow hit the village in the morning hours.

The truck skidded into Capezio Dance Theatre Shop and Advance Tuxedos, which were both subsequently boarded up by the village Building Department. No workers were inside the stores at the time of the incident.

Village police also responded to the accident Monday morning.
