It may have still felt like August on Tuesday, with temperatures reaching 89 degrees and the heat index in the mid-90s, but September had arrived. Merrick and North Merrick children walked through school doorways again on Sept. 2, the first day of the 2014-15 school year.
The Merrick Herald Life was there to catch the action as parents dropped off their children at Fayette Elementary School, on Merrick Avenue in North Merrick, which was festooned with balloons and decorations.
