Three hundred Rockville Centre customers lose power on Wednesday

Crews from the Rockville Centre Electric Department worked to restore power to approximately 300 customers on Wednesday after a wire shorted out and caused a fire on a utility pole at Kennedy Avenue and Long Beach Road. A village spokesman said the blackout was unrelated to the heat, as temperatures headed toward the mid-nineties, under a blazing sun.

The outage, which began at 11:15 a.m., was fixed by 12:30 p.m.

Most of the affected customers were north of Capitolian Boulevard, south of DeMott Avenue and east of Long Beach Road, although there were a smattering of customers on Hamilton Road, Holyoke, Oxford and Stratford who lost power.

South Side High School, the school district's Administration Building, Wilson Elementary School and Central Synagogue of Nassau County were also without electricity during Wednesday's blackout.
