Police are investigating a double homicide after two bodies were found inside a burned car in a parking garage at the Green Acres Mall on Sunday night.

Local authorities responded to a call for a car fire in the Sears parking garage at about 11:06 p.m. on April 9, police said. After extinguishing the fire, police said they found a body inside the vehicle. A few hours later on Monday, they announced that there were two victims — a man and a woman — both of whom were pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not identify the victims as of press time Monday.

Police did not release details about the location of the bodies inside the car or the make and model of the vehicle.

According to Valley Stream Fire Chief James Ervolino, about 25 officers responded to the fire. Officials said the investigation would continue.

Nassau County detectives requested that anyone with information about the incident contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
