Two Freeport police officers sworn in and promoted

A thunderous clap erupted throughout the Freeport Village hall after Mayor Robert Kennedy swore in two Freeport Police Department officers before the start of the biweekly board of trustees meeting on March 25. The newly promoted Sergeant Edwin Martin and Detective David Brodsky stood before the Freeport residents as they swore to continue to serve and protect the village.

“I want to congratulate the family and friends of these officers for the outstanding work they perform,” Kennedy said. “They are proven to be an asset to the village of Freeport, the police department, and their peers.”

Martin is a Freeport High School alumnus who has served on the FPD since the 1990s. He has also actively participated in the police department’s Adopt-a-Cop program and serves as a volunteer fire fighter with the Freeport Fire Department. Martin was promoted to seargeant.

Brodsky has served the FPD since 1998 and Freeport High School alumnus who has volunteered as a volunteer fire fighter with the Freeport Fire Department. Brodsky was promoted to detective.

“I am proud to say that the village is probably the safest village in the United States,” Kennedy said. “We don’t have the problems that other villages and cities are incurring.”

According to Kennedy, in the last year year, the village crime rate has reduced by 53 percent and 37 percent year to date. In the last years, the departments has added of staff.

“Our police are here to protect our residents, business and community,” Kennedy said. “I ask these officers promoted today to continue to enforcing these laws, rules and regulations fairly and professionally.”

After the official promotion of the officers the Board of Trustees started their meeting and discussed and approved the request to a number of negotiated settlements for different locations in the village. The board also approved to receive bids from professional architectural/engineering design services for the protection of power plant two. The Board also scheduled a public hearing for April 16 at 8 p.m. to discuss the renewal of the cable franchise agreement between the village and Verizon New York Inc.
