Deanna Perez and Kevin Alonge were the first recipients of the Sean Finnegan Memorial Sportsmanship Scholarship.

I think that the scholarship is a very nice tribute to my son. He played soccer from age 4 up until age 16 (the later years on a travel team). My husband the teams coach for most of those years. He continued to play on intramural teams at Chaminade H.S. and Stony Brook Univ.

The Lynbrook/East Rockaway Soccer Club established the scholarship which is awarded to students who have achieved a high level of academic success, and who have consistently demonstrated the honorable values of sportsmanship and fair play in all of their endeavors.

Finnegan, 21, of Lynbrook, a 2006 graduate of Chaminade High School in 2006, was killed in April in a Pennsylvania car crash.

The first scholarships were given out on June 7 at the Lynbrook High School Senior Varsity Dinner.
