Valley Stream schools are closed

The snow has stopped falling in Valley Stream, but residents are left with about a foot to dig out on Wednesday.

All Valley Stream students, and teachers, got a day off from school. The four districts are closed for the day.

Snow began falling across Nassau County shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday and the four district superintendents decided by 9 p.m. that schools would be closed on Wednesday.

District 24 Superintendent Dr. Edward Fale said he does not think that the storm will close schools for more than one day. "I think we'll be open for Thursday," he said.

District 30's community budget forum scheduled for Wednesday night has been postponed. It will now be held on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Shaw Avenue School.

The snow could be around for a while as little melting should be expected with temperatures in the 30s for the next several days.
