Valley Stream seniors celebrate Valentine's Day

It was the time to celebrate your Valentine during a special dance for senior citizens at the Hendrickson Park administration building on Feb. 16. Friends and fellow residents gathered to show their love for one another and their significant others.

Cupid’s arrow hit more than 30 seniors, who ate cake, candy and an assortment of goodies provided by Valley Catering. Several attendees also danced to playful tunes.

“The dance is going marvelous,” said Barbara Diglio, coordinator of the Silver Threads senior citizens’ group. “I think it is because of the snowfall stopping and the warmth.” Diglio added that she has been planning for the event since the beginning of this month by finding the “best buys” for food and decorations.

Big red paper hearts and balloons filled the room and love was in the air, especially for couple Evelyn and John Dwyer. “It is very nice to be here because we have 10 kids,” said John Dwyer, who has been married to Evelyn for 64 years. “We have had past Valentines which were really special.”

Attendees sang a special birthday song to Diglio, along with two other ladies, including Faye Metz. “I always will come back here because I love this place,” Metz said.
