After serving in the Navy for the past four years, Andrew DeMarsico decided to do it all over again. He will return to Naval service for another four years on May 12.

DeMarsico, 23, is a 2005 graduate of Valley Stream Central High School and worked at the Wheeler Deli. In 2007, he served his first tour of duty in Afghanistan. He would be sent there again in 2008 and 2009, serving a total of 20 months in his three tours.

While in Afghanistan, he was responsible for getting 305 soldiers safely to the nation. He also had to secure the proper qualifications for Naval aircraft to fly in Afghanistan.

DeMarsico had his boot camp training in Great Lakes, Ill. and then went on to Naval A-school in Meridian, Miss. In June 2006, he was sent to Whidbey Island in Washington state to join Electronic Attack Squadron 134.

When he returns to service, he will join the Commander Electronic Attack Wing of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. In two years, he will head to submarine school.

DeMarsico was honored at the Valley Stream American Legion hall by village and town officials on Monday night. He also became the newest member of Andrew Fatscher Post 854.
