Valley Stream unveils upgraded pool complex

Posted

The heavy rains of Friday passed and the sun was shining for the opening of the Valley Stream pool complex at Hendrickson Park on June 8.

Pool members got to use the renovated lockers rooms for the first time. The men’s and women’s bathrooms received new plumbing, fixtures, tiles, floors and lighting. This was the first time the locker rooms have been upgraded since the complex opened in 1960. All the bathrooms are now ADA-compliant, Mayor Ed Fare said.

New windows were installed throughout the complex as well as new doors in the lobby. The steps leading up to the lobby were removed and replaced by a ramp to make it handicapped accessible.

This was the second year of renovations at the complex. Last year, a new roof, façade and awnings were installed on the building. The village is funding the upgrades through its annual capital budget.

Fare said in the future the 53-year-old dive pool will be replaced. In its place, he said, the plan is to install an outdoor pool with a slide along with an indoor pool.

The pool is now open seven days a week through Labor Day.
