Veterans honor singer

Michael Amante received the American Legion’s Americanism Award from John R. Radin Sr., past commander of the Victor Murtha Post 972 in Long Beach, at the 85th Annual Military Ball at Temple Avodah in Oceanside on Oct. 8. Amante is a Las Vegas singer who holds an annual concert at Capital One Bank Theater in Westbury to raise money for disabled veterans.

Other honrees were John McLaughlin, a City Council member who received the Humanitarian Award for his work with the Waterfront Warriors project, and Thomas Parker, a decorated Vietnam War veteran in Long Beach, was named Legionnaire of the Year.
