Man beaten with hammer near Staples
Police are investigating an assault in Valley Stream Tuesday night on Sunrise Highway near Staples.
According to police, a 41-year-old man was walking near the store at 10:05 p.m. on Sept. 7 when another man charged at him, knocking the him to the ground. Tools spilled out from a bag the victim was carrying, and the assailant picked up a hammer and struck the victim several times.
The suspect ran across Sunrise Highway and fled northbound on South Franklin Avenue.
The victim suffered injuries to his head and face, and was taken to the hospital for treatment. He had a three-inch laceration on the abck of his head.
There is no description of the suspect. Police are still investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stopper at (800) 244-TIPS.
