Saying that the village battled "an extraordinarily difficult winter that has delivered record snowfall amounts," (over 4 ')Mayor Mary Bossart told trustees at the Feb. 8 village board meeting that it put "additional strain on the municipal budget.”

And as it turns out, the estimated costs for snow removal and cleanup this year far exceeded the budget.

The village originally budgeted $231,500 for snow removal this winter, and the December blizzard alone ate away at approximately 70 percent of that amount, the mayor said. So far, the estimated total cost for snow removal this winter is $374,000 — approximately $143,000 more than what was originally budgeted. At 51" the village spent approximately $7,333 per inch.

The costs can be broken down accordingly: $62,000 on overtime costs for workers, $160,000 for the assistance of three outside contracting companies and $152,000 for sand and 1,100 tons of salt.

Village Comptroller Mike Schussheim is still working to determine where the extra money to balance the snowstorm budget will

come from, said a village spokesman
