Police Officer Timothy Crosby took the oath of office at the September Board of Trustees meeting. Police Commissioner Charles Gennario swore in the new officer.

“In Rockville Centre we value, appreciate, and support our first responders,” commented Mayor Francis X. Murray. “Officer Crosby is an excellent addition to our Police Department. I am extremely confident that he will continue to keep our community a safe place to work, play, and raise a family.”

Crosby was born and raised in Nassau County. A three-sport athlete and captain of his high school football team, he studied kinesiology at SUNY Cortland. After leaving Cortland to join the New York City Police Department in 2012, he was assigned to the Mid-Town South Precinct upon graduation from the academy. Crosby received the Departmental Recognition for outstanding attendance.

“We’re very excited to have him on board,” Gennario said. “We’ve been working short handed all summer, we have three members out long term sick or injured, and we need the personnel to round out our staff.”

Due to the urgent need for qualified manpower, Crosby’s experience with the NYPD will be an asset to the Rockville Centre community. “It’s great having him come from the NYPD,” said Gennario. “He doesn’t need to spend months at the police academy since he’s a five-year veteran.”

Right now, Officer Crosby is going through a short familiarization period. He will be brought up to date on Rockville Centre police policies and procedures. Additionally, due to the differences in firearms between the NYPD and Rockville Centre police, he will need to be reauthorized on the firearms used by the village’s officers.

After that he will spend some time riding along with experienced Rockville Centre officers to get acquainted with the area and patrol routes.

Finally, Crosby will go through a short requalification process, and then he’ll be ready to serve and patrol, “He should hit the streets in about two weeks,” said Commissioner Gennario.
