Famed Marine Sgt. William Bodette was welcomed at the airport and escorted by the Patriot Guard to the VFW in Lynbrook on Monday night, where members and residents stood to greet him.

“I personally served with him from 1991 to 1994,” said Post Commander Pat Cardone. “He’s visiting New York, and we’d like to give him a warm welcome.”

Bodette, a gunnery sergeant at the time, was featured in a History Channel program, “Shootout: The Hunt for Bin Laden,” which aired Nov. 6, 2005 and again July 12, 2007. He was deployed to Afghanistan from May to July 2004 with 1st platoon, Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines. He was stationed at Camp Blessing near Nangalam in the Kunar Province in northeastern Afghanistan. Camp Blessing was a Special Forces firebase in the heart of Taliban and Al-Qaeda territory. He also participated in a ten-part series called “Battle 360,” in 2008.

Bodette was invited to New York to help celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Port Authority Police Marine Corps of New York and New Jersey.
