Hundreds of West Hempstead residents took the streets Monday, May 30, to march in the hamlet's annual Memorial Day Parade, which was sponsored by the American Legion Cathedral Post 1087 and the West Hempstead Community Support Association.

The parade began at the St. Thomas the Apostle Chapel on Hempstead Avenue and ended at the Echo Park parking field, where the ceremony and laying of wreaths took place.

The West Hempstead school district marching bands led the parade. Among participants were members of Post 1087, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 325, Van Cott Post 1139, the Lakeview and West Hempstead Fire Deptartments, Boy Scout Troop 240, West Hempstead/Franklin Square Girl Scouts and the Marine Color Guard.
